Last week our family had a great time making these snack mixes. This fun snack mix uses various food items use various snacks as symbols to narrate the Easter story, which is perfect for kids. These gift bags are perfect to hang out at an Easter gathering.
Each item in the snack mix symbolizes a part of the Easter story:
- Pretzels: Represent the arms crossed in prayer, reminding us that Jesus prayed in the Garden of Gethsemane.
- Crackers or Chips: These can symbolize the crown of thorns Jesus wore.
- Fish Crackers: These remind us of Jesus’s disciples and His teachings to be ‘fishers of men’.
- Red Jelly Beans or Dried Cranberries: Symbolize the blood of Jesus, shed for the forgiveness of our sins.
- Popcorn or Marshmallows: These can represent the tomb where Jesus was buried, as they are light and airy, symbolizing the empty tomb after He rose.
- Pastel Candy-coated Chocolate (like M&Ms): These symbolize new life and spring, a reminder of the new life we have because of Jesus’s resurrection.
How to make this fun Easter Snack Mix
This special treat for kids is a fun way to teach kids the true meaning of Easter. The Easter Story Snack Mix is a creative and interactive way to teach children about the significance of Easter. Children often learn best through hands-on experiences like this one!
Easter Snack Mix Recipe Supplies
There are only a few supplies and the following ingredients needed to make this easy easter story snack mix:
- 32 Ritz Crackers – (any round cracker will do)
- 3/4 cup mini marshmallows
- 1 cup pretzel sticks
- 3/4 cup goldfish crackers
- 1/2 cup craisins
- 1/2 cup pastel M&Ms
- Twine – to attach the bag toppers to the snack bag.
- Easter Story printable – get the digital download by subscribing below.
- Ziploc bags or cellophane bags – a standard sandwich size bag works if using Ziploc bags.
- White Paper or white Card stock – I find cardstock paper looks best and makes the colors pop!
- Color Printer (or the ability to take the file to a printing store)
- Scissors or paper cutter
- One hole punch
Prep
- Print the gift tags on heavy white cardstock at home on your printer or take them to a print shop.
- Cut the tags separately and punch a hole through the upper top left corner of each gift tag.
Directions
- First, place the snack items in a big bowl and mix them.
- Divide the ingredients evenly among the treat bags.
- Use the twine to tie the clear bags, threading a tag on, and then tying it into a bow.
It’s that easy! As children enjoy their snack mix, each component provides an opportunity to discuss the events leading up to the resurrection of Jesus, making it a memorable and meaningful Easter activity.
Storage Tips
This snack mix can last for 3-5 days if stored in an air tight container. It can be prepared in advance of when you plan to use it. However, the mini marshmallows and pretzels may get a little stale if stored for too long.
The Easter Story Snack Mix Printable Bible Verses
The symbols of Jesus are represented by each snack item. Along with the food item, a bible verse is included on the free printable bag topper.
- Pretzel Sticks – The Cross – Colossians 2:14 He forgave us all our sins, 14 having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross.
- Craisins – Jesus’ Blood – Ephesians 1:7, In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.
- Round Cracker – The Stone was Rolled Away – Luke 24:2, They found the stone rolled away from the tomb.
- Goldfish – Be Fishers of Men – Matthew 4:19, Jesus called out to them, “Come, follow me, and I will show you how to fish for people!
- Mini Marshmallows – Our Sins are Washed Away 1 John 1:9, The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
- Sweet Treat – Taste and See that the Lord is Good – Psalm 34:8, Taste and see that the Lord is good;
blessed is the one who takes refuge in him
