What kid doesn’t love learning about the wonders of the sea and all fun it can bring? All the beach and sea themed games and activities below are focused geared for children ages 3 – 10 years old. These can be used for a recreation program or a birthday party.
The Best Under the Sea Kids Activities
Under the Sea Card Charade Game
Cut out pictures of different sea items such as a sailboat, starfish, scuba diver, and palm tree. Make cards out of the pictures. Pick a child to hold the card on their forehead facing the crowd. Do not let the child see what it is. He or she must ask the audience yes or no questions such as “Am I a person?” “Do I swim?” “Do I live under the sea?”. The audience can only answer yes or no. Eventually, the person will ask, “Am I a Starfish?” and they will figure out what the card was. This game is similar to the game Headbands. The kids love it and get really excited.
Arts and Craft -Turtle Time
Supplies: Green Paper Plate, Glue dots, Green Construction Paper, Eyeballs, and different rocks.
· Cut out legs, tail, and ahead of time.
· Separate the different rocks and have kids pick out different varieties they can decorate the shell with.
· Glue the legs, tail, and head on underneath the paper plate.
· Glue eyeballs on the Turtle
· Have kids glue each rock on the plate and encourage them to fill it completely if possible.
Snacktime using a Fishing Rod and Goldfish
Place Goldfish snacks in a ziplock bag. Hide behind a curtain or somewhere that the children can “fish” for them. For the fishing pole, find a stick, tie a ribbon on it and place a clothespin on the end of the ribbon to model a fishing pole. Have a staff member hide behind the curtain and attach the goldfish ziplock bag for the child to pull out. It’s cheesy, but the kids love to use their imagination.
Kids Movies about the Ocean
- The Little Mermaid
- Shark tale
- Finding Nemo
- Dolphin Tale
- Free Willy
Freeze Sharks & Minnows Game with Pool Noodles
Pick a few kids (or one kid depending on how many kids you have) to be the shark. Cut a pool noodle in half for them to carry with them. They will use the pool noodle instead of their hand to “tag” the minnows in a designated area such as a gym or backyard. Everyone else are the minnows. Once the minnows are tagged by the noodles they must automatically freeze and can only tag other minnows by their hands and by not moving. The last person to be tagged is it and can be the new shark.
Jelly Fish Jump
Have two lines of hula hoops near each other. Have the children jump from one hoop to another. After each child has gone, spread out the hula hoops further and further. If a child can not make the jump, he or she is out until the last child is standing.
Crab Walk Race/Crab Soccer
The kids race each other in the crab walk or you can play a game of soccer with the kids in the crab walk position.
Hula Hoop Island Mad Dash
Play fun music and have the children run all over the room. Once the music stops the kids must stop and try to jump inside a Hula Hoop (Island). After each music stops, take away a hula hoop. Eventually, some children will not fit into the hula hoop/island and will be out. Last person standing wins. Pick up the hula hoops each time and throw them out right before the music starts so the children aren’t staying next to the hula hoop on purpose.
There are TONS of beach and sea themed gym games that you can play, but those are a few that we played during our program. The Classic Limbo Game is always a hit!
