Making shaving cream Easter eggs is a unique way to color eggs when you are limited on supplies. Perhaps, you want to try a different egg decorating method. In that case, this is a great Easter family activity.
How to make shaving cream Easter eggs
This is a great activity to teach your children about mixing primary colors. Plus, it allows them to practice their fine motor skills. I will warn you that it does get messy and the food coloring can stain your hands so wear gloves you feel nervous about it.

What supplies do you need to dye Easter eggs with shaving cream?
- Hard-boiled eggs
- Gel Food Coloring
- Cotton swabs, toothpicks or skewers to mix the colors
- Regular white shaving cream (do not purchase the colored gel shaving cream)
- Muffin pan or large aluminum pan
- Paper towels
Instructions for dying your Easter Eggs with shaving cream
First, boil your eggs so they don’t break while dying them.
Second, place shaving cream in muffin tins with individual cupcake liners or in a large aluminum pan shown in the video above. The muffin pan is great if you have different children that want to make several different shades of eggs.
Pour food coloring drops throughout the shaving cream and mix using a cotton swab or skewer.
Cotton swabs will be safer for younger children.
Place the egg in the shaving cream mixture and cover completely. Let sit for 10-15 minutes.
There are two different ways you can take off the additional shaving cream:
Pour cold water over the eggs or wipe off with a paper towel. When I used the paper towel I did not there was brighter colors that popped better. Red really shows up well while green may need longer to soak or more drops into the shaving cream.
What do you think? Are you up for the shaving cream challenge? I recommend that you make sure kids do not try to eat the shaving cream. If you are worried about that happening, consider making Whip Cream Easter Eggs.
I do not recommend eating these eggs, but rather using them as decoration.
