Surprise! Modern Mom Life has a new look! What do you think? I hope you love it as much as I do! To celebrate, we have some great prizes to giveaway. Keep reading to find out why the redesigned occurred, where things are headed and what fun things are brewing for our community.
The New Look Explained
First, check out the new site on desktop and mobile as they vary in style.
My vision for the new look: feminine, modern, chic, and easy to navigate. White, crisp with pops of color throughout opposed to pastels and florals that I once had.
With the new design, I am hoping the content will be able to shine through and connect with readers in a powerful way with less design distractions. Over time, my goal is to have my pins branded and uniform so when you see it pop across your feed you know to repin. Do you follow the blog on Pinterest?
Why the change?
Change is the only thing we can count on. Many people are terrified of change. I thrive on it and admittedly it drives my husband nuts. Three years ago when I completely rebranded my website’s name and look, my partner in crime and IT guru made me promise not to redesign it for another 2 years. I was thrilled with the new look and still love it to this day, but recently I craved a change.
Sometimes I can be impulsive and make rash decisions, so I slept on it for weeks. Time went by and I happen to ask my graphic designer (who tends to have a long waiting list) if she had an opening. As faith would have it, someone had cancelled and I was able to get in quicker than usual. That was a sign for me. (I take signs very seriously)
After years of blogging, I found myself uninspired, negative, and burnt out. The thought of writing multiple sponsored posts day in and day out were wearing on me. I loved the money but missed writing about topics I was passionate about. Then, writer’s block hit. I stopped being vulnerable in my writing and became robotic. I questioned blogging wondering “What is the point of it all?” The fact that I suffer from postpartum depression and anxiety didn’t help either.
I found myself getting caught up in the comparison game and FOMO “fear of missing out”. Attending events with not much return on investment, worrying too much what others thought about me, and simply not having any sort of strategy. Saying YES to everyone and everything while missing out on things that are really important to me.
Then, I attended the Mom 2.0 Summit. That’s when signs of how I should pivot my direction hit me like a pile of bricks:
Sign 1: Meeting with the Today Show Parenting Team who encouraged me to get back to my writing and submit articles. (It’s on my to-do list!)
Sign 2: Brene Brown’s keynote session about being vulnerable. The universe told me it was time to get back to putting myself out there.
Sign 3: Talking to others in my profession who were feeling the same way. I didn’t feel so crazy after all.
Sign 4: Being happy for those who won awards at the Iris Awards. Seeing their hard work be recognized and watching them get overwhelmed with emotion reminded me why I do what I do. They motivated me!
Fast forward several months later, the new design has sparked something inside of me I haven’t felt for some time. That’s worth every penny. I know that design is only one piece of the puzzle. For effective change to happen, it has to come from within and with breaking some bad habits.
A new season, outlook and what’s to come
Readers can expect content that is important to them. Modern Moms come in all forms, but I really want to dive in to what connects us. What struggles do we have and how do we overcome them? How can we parent without losing ourselves? What does modern day parenting look like for others?
It’s a new season for me. I am done making babies and our family is complete. I am ready to focus on being a better human being for myself and others. What does that journey look like? I am excited to share! My outlook is simple: if it isn’t making me money, making me happy or making me a better person the answer is “No, thank you”.
Of course there will still be sponsored posts (I have to pay bills and it takes money to operate this blog believe it or not). It will be more about quality over quantity.
Enjoy the usual content I produce: recipes, parenting, party tips, DIY and entertainment. Expect more beauty, style and relationship building topics.
Also, I have met incredible Modern Moms that have stories and advice to share. It’s time to feature them! (Podcast coming soon!) Know a potential guest? Let me know!
