Thank you McKinney Performing Arts Center for sponsoring today’s post. All opinions are my own.
Downtown McKinney will always have a piece of my heart. I fell in love with this hidden gem when I worked at a local winery in college.
It was the best job to have. Educating others about wine and talking about Downtown McKinney didn’t feel like a job at all. Meeting new people and exploring the fun shops nearby wasn’t bad at all.
However, once I graduated college, it was time for me to get a ‘real job’. Through determination, luck and chance, I accepted a job as a Main Street Program Specialist.
Part of that role was coordinating Downtown McKinney festivals, finding creative ways to market it as a destination, and working to preserve the historic elements that makes the square so unique.
This position served as a stepping stone to advance my career that eventually brought me right back (10 years later) to working at the McKinney Performing Arts Center (MPAC) located in Downtown McKinney.
Isn’t it fun sometimes to look back on our lives to see how it was all a game of connect the dots?
In its heyday, the Collin County Courthouse was a bustling hub in the historic heart of McKinney and one of the tallest buildings in Texas.
Today, MPAC is a multi-purpose facility and theatre that seats 427 for live entertainment including off-Broadway, comedy, theater and concerts.
MPAC is in the center of the historic district that has given me so many great memories.
Now is the time to give back to McKinney Performing Arts Center
With your help, the exterior rehabilitation of the McKinney Performing Arts Center, which occupies the courthouse today, will enhance visitors’ experiences for generations to come.
McKinney’s Main Street program has been named a participant of the Partners in Preservation: Main Streets campaign.

What makes McKinney Performing Arts Unique?
“Our downtown is the heart of our city and offers a strong sense of place for our residents and the McKinney Performing Arts Center is the center of it all. It’s where we gather to celebrate, watch shows and spend time with families and friends,” said Amy Rosenthal, Director of McKinney Main Street. “By voting for McKinney you are contributing to help preserve our jewel of a building for future generations to enjoy.”
