Incredibles 2 Review: Is it Worth the Wait?
The Pharr family is back after 14 long years of waiting. But was it worth the wait?
Absolutely!
It was great having my five-year-old daughter along for the ride. Our entire family minus our own Baby Jack-Jack geeked out in excitement during the movie screening we attended.
My sidekick confirmed that Elastigirl was her favorite character and she thought Baby Jack-Jack was funny. (Keep reading for my Incredibles 2 parent guide and her reaction to the movie).
Incredibles 2 review
Incredibles 2 held my attention for the entire 118 min as it did for my child and husband. The beauty of this film is that it can appeal to anyone no matter one’s age.
The sequel picks up right where it left off during the first movie.
If you remember, Mr. Incredible was the breadwinner for the family working for that awful Insurance company. Things quickly change for the Pharr family when telecommunications guru Winston Deavor enlists Elastigirl to fight crime in an effort to make the public fall in love with superheroes.
Seeing Mr. Incredible in his Super Dad role was comical He soon realizes being a stay at home parent isn’t as easy as it appears. With the roles reserved, parents will get a kick out seeing the challenges everyone faces with this major adjustment.
I also think it’s important for our children to see these gender roles reversed. For my daughter to walk out of this film and tell me Elastigirl was her favorite character of the movie tells me she enjoyed cheering on a leading lady as well.

The action picks up during the film when a cybercriminal named Screenslaver launches his plan — hypnotizing the world through computer and television screens. Which I believe is already happening in our society. Have you seen the way kids and people zone out on their devices?
Without spoiling the plot, there are several twists, turns and hysterical surprises that audiences will enjoy.
Baby Jack-Jack steals every scene he is in. I may be a little bias because he is so similar to my own baby boy.
Is there an Incredibles 2 Post-Credits Scene?
Our family watched most of the credits because they were catchy to watch. I was hopeful to catch a post-credit clip to tease something. However, it was late and we were up way past my daughter’s bedtime. She has been known to turn into angry Baby Jack-Jack if she doesn’t get her sleep. There are hints of an Easter egg reference if you can stay post-credits.
Did Incredibles 2 hold up to the original?
You bet!!
I don’t think it was better than the first but it sure was close. Only because I wanted to see more of one character who I will not name due to spoilers.
The quality, scenes and animation are much better than the first film thanks to advances in technology. You can see the detail in their uniforms, hair and clothing.

When the credits rolled, I felt myself getting sad as I did not want the fun to end.
Will they make us wait another 14 years for another Incredibles film? I sure hope not. We need more movies that make entire families laugh in unison. Now that you have read my Incredibles 2 review, be sure to check out my movie parent guide below.
Is Incredibles 2 Safe for Kids?
Every parent and child differ both in personalities and family values. These are my opinions only. When in doubt, go see the movie yourself first and then bring the kids if you decide to do so. You know your children better than I do!
Movie rating
Incredibles 2 is rated PG for action sequences and some brief mild language.
Language
I did not catch any vulgar language while watching this film other than the occasional mention of “crap” or “what the?” The term “Oh my God!” can be heard.
Violence
The action sequences in Incredibles 2 are plentiful and intense at times. During these moments they definitely caught my attention. I didn’t feel the need to look away. However, when I glanced at my daughter she kept watching but at times had her ears covered because the sound was ‘too loud’. She is sensitive to loud noises.
Some characters brandish cartoon guns. There are moments of mass destruction with buildings, cars and explosions.

Frightening & Intense Scenes
The visuals in some scenes are dark and can be scary. One major scene keeps viewers in suspense a way a scary movie does.
If your child gets easily scared of things popping out unexpectedly then you may want to skip this film.
However, I went into this film not expecting my child to be scared because the first film did not scare her. This one scene is more frightening than anything we saw in the original.
I glanced at my daughter several times ready to take her out of the theatre but thankfully that moment never occurred. Later, she mentioned she was not scared of this scene at all.
This was the only moment during the film I felt uneasy about young children (Ages 6 and under) watching.
If your child is sensitive and keeps scary images in their mind for a long time, perhaps wait until it comes out on DVD and fast forward this part.
Also, if you and your child suffers from seizures there are approximately 4-5 scenes that have flashing strobe lights in them.
Alcohol, Drugs and Smoking
There is one moment where characters are drinking cocktails, but there are no references to smoking or drugs.
Sex & Nudity
Violet has a crush on Tony. A joke about Violet going through adolescence is also referenced. There is no nudity or sexual references.
I hope this Incredibles 2 review and parent guide was helpful. It’s safe to say Incredibles 2 is for the most part a family-friendly movie. I have read other reviews that say they do not feel this movie is kid-friendly. Again, every child and family is different so use your judgement. My five year old loved it and can’t stop talking about it. When in doubt, go see it first without your kids and make that judgement call.

Vanessa Jones says
My six year old son found the glasses/glowing eyes scary. I didn’t read a review before going, assuming it would be fine based on the first one, but I think this one was definitely scarier.
Michelle Hancock says
Thanks for reading! I agree that this sequel was a bit more intense than the original. Some say it’s geared more for parents than adults. In our situation, my child was not scared. However, every child is different. Sorry your son got scared! Thats no fun!
Piper Pharis says
I was watching this movie with my four and two year old sisters, and noticed that one of the characters cussed in the movie. But other than that, this movie is amazing!
Michelle Hancock says
Oh really? I must have missed that! Was it the part that he said, “What the?” but didn’t say it?
