There are several guest bedroom ideas to help make your spare bedroom feel comfortable and cozy to your guests. Warning: they may not want to leave after you try out these tips.
Admittedly, our spare room was starting to look more like a storage unit. When people came over, I dashed to the room last minute and hide all the junk. It never felt like a guest room, but rather a huge storage closet.
No wonder I never wanted anyone to stay overnight. I was embarrassed.
Once I toured my neighbor’s homes, I noticed their guest bedrooms looked more like a luxury hotel room. No clutter, little furniture, and tiny details made me want to stay the night. That is totally ridiculous since I live next door, but you get the point. They inspired me to give a crap about my guest room, so I did just that. I organized items, donated things I haven’t touched in months, and made the guest bedroom feel cozier. In other words, it looks like I gave effort.
Easy Ways to spice up your guest bedroom
Display a Custom Wifi Printable
This was the first thing that popped out to me when I saw my friend’s guest bedrooms. Why didn’t I think of this before? Every time some one asks for our Wifi information I have to bug my husband to give them our password/login. A smart person would write this down for my own information, but I never do. My neighbors printed out their information and put the sign in a cute frame. I decided to design and print Wifi Printable on card stock on my clipboard frame. It’s easy access in case we have to change our information again. Remember, I am married to IT Genius, so our passwords change quite frequently.
For security purposes I did not take a photo of our full Wifi Printable, but here is what it looks like.
Make the climate comfortable
Add curtains, invest in a ceiling fan or have an additional blankets in the closet for the cold months. Nothing is worse than staying the night somewhere and freezing or sweating your butt off but feeling too embarrassed to ask the host to adjust the climate. I don’t mind asking my close friends to do this because they know I can be picky, but I would hesitate to do this at others. Don’t want to appear high maintenance even though I am getting that way the older I get. Anyone else with me on this?
Create a Basket or Tray Filled with Travel-Related Items
Take a trip to the Dollar Store or raid your cabinets for travel items that guests may forget. Think like a hotelier. Items such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, phone chargers, lotion, shampoo, and conditioner are great items to put in a tray or basket. Bonus points if you have a few spare magazines they can read before bed.
Provide a variety of pillows
Have a variety of pillows both fluffy and firm because everyone has their certain tastes. I have been known to bring my own pillow places because I am crazy like that, but normal people don’t always do that.
Plug in a night light or have a lamp nearby
If your guests have kids, they may appreciate this. If they don’t like night lights they can always take them out. Lamps are great ways to make a room cozy. Target has a variety of lamps that are budget-friendly.
If all else fails, paint
It’s amazing what a coat of paint can do to change the look and feel of a room. Simply paint your guest bedroom a soothing color and it will automatically feel different. This is on my list to do this Summer.
Your guests will notice the effort and you will feel better about their stay. Don’t invest a lot of time and money into the guest room, but do put in some effort so you all can get a great night’s sleep.
