Disney sent me to Los Angeles on an all-expenses paid press trip, in exchange for my coverage of these events, which included an exclusive interview with Marvel Studios President and Producer Kevin Feige. All opinions are my own.
Film after film, Marvel Studios continues to entertain fans leaving them desperate for more. Meet the man behind Marvel, President and Producer Kevin Feige, who is hugely responsible for bringing these popular comic characters to life on the big screen that smash box office records time-after-time.
Instant cheers erupted when he walked into the room. With 25 eager bloggers ready ask him questions, there wasn’t a quiet moment during our short time together. For a person who has a lot of pressure to produce blockbuster hits in a short time frame, he appears calm and collective. That tells me he is truly passionate about what he does and talented none the less.
An Exclusive Interview with Kevin Feige
A New Look for Thor: Ragnarok
When asked why Thor had a makeover and why this movie felt different in style, Feige explained, “It was our idea perfected and improved by Director Taika Waititi. What we always do in our movies is go to a new, unexpected place.”
The perfect pair
You might notice that in many Marvel movies if the entire cast of Avengers aren’t present, there is usually a pair of beloved characters to move the stand-alone Marvel movies along.
According to Feige, “Mr. Hemsworth” used to say, “Hey, mate, Captain America has got Iron Man in his movie, who am I getting?”
Feige’s response, “The fun thing about Thor is he’s got amazing characters in his own comics – Hela and Valkyrie. We thought about who else we could bring in from the universe and very quickly we, we realized Hulk would be that guy. Seeing Thor and Hulk battle it out together is great. Seeing Banner and Thor being fish out of water is even better.”
Are there plans for any other stand-alone Hulk movies?
Feige agrees that they would be fun to bring to the big screen but it’s a little bit more complicated due to various studio contracts that would have to be worked out. On the bright side, he is happy to have the ability to include Hulk in these ensembles.
Any chance for an all-female cast of movie?
With a smile on his face, Feige said, “I think we certainly have enough powerful characters to do that. I recently found myself in an undisclosed location. Somebody tapped on my shoulder and I turned around and there was Scarlet Johansson, Brie Larson, Karen Gillan, Tessa Thompson, Pom Klementieff, all asking when are we going to do a movie? That was pretty overwhelming. Zoe Saldana was also standing there.”
An epic meeting between the cosmic adventures
When asked if Guardians of the Galaxy will meet Thor in the future, Feige confirmed that we will see the meeting unfold May 2018. And, no it won’t be a short cameo. A matter of fact they have already shot a few “fun” scenes between them.
Does he have a favorite avenger?
I laughed when this question was asked because it reminds me of people asking if parents have a favorite child. Like we would EVER admit that. We all love them equally right?
With that being said, Feige said he does not have a favorite but enjoys seeing another Avenger rise to the top after each movie release. He mentioned that it’s been fun reading comments that say Thor is now people’s favorite after watching Thor: Ragnarok.
We could have talked to Kevin Feige for hours, but he is a busy man with movies to make for all of us to obsess over! I have a feeling this won’t be the last time we get to pick his brain because the future Marvel movie slate is far from over.
