Spring is here and it’s time to get our kids outside and active. The challenge can be making healthy living fun and entertaining for kids. I want to let you all in on a little secret – it’s really not that hard! We hosted a Make a Fresh Start this Spring with a Kids Yoga party and kids of all ages LOVED it!
We had kids as young as 2.5 years old participate in some capacity. With the help of healthy snacking they also enjoyed taking a break from Yoga to chat with friends. The warm Spring weather provided the perfect backdrop for our active afternoon. Don’t stress over finding the perfect outdoor venue as my small and simple backyard was perfect!
How to throw the ultimate Kids Yoga Party
Create buzz before the Kids Yoga Party starts
Send out invitations that get everyone excited! Ask the kids to wear active clothing and put on sunscreen before arriving. Thanks to Smart Lifebites everyone was provided a Yoga Mat. If you do not have the budget to buy yoga mats, kindly ask your guests to bring one or you can provide beach towels as well. I heard from several parents that their kids were really excited to wear work out clothes and learn more about Yoga.
Hire a Yoga Fitness Instructor
Not sure where to find one? Start with your local gym or ask around in a moms group. I wanted to have someone who knows who to work well with children and is certified in yoga instruction.
Provide healthy snacks and drinks during the party
For a yoga party, I strongly suggest sticking to the theme of creating healthy habits early on. Ditch the sodas and high sugar drinks for healthy snacks and cold water bottles the kids can drink during and after class. The adults sipped on pineapple and strawberry fruit punch drinks that I made fresh.
Send the kids home with goodies
Since we were focused on healthy fruit snacks, I thought the party favors should be the same. I ordered fruit stickers, erasers and rainbow colors from Oriental Trading, found fruit pencils at Target. Art +Ink put the party kits together personalizing each with the child’s name. (P.S. the kids thought that was so cool!)
I sent the kids home with their own yoga mat to encourage them to practice their new yoga poses at home. I received a few text messages from parents telling me their kids were so proud to show their new poses off to their Dads! Send them home with Crispy Green snacks to have at home.
More activities to keep kids entertained
I found fruit themed plastic Easter eggs from Oriental Trading and stuffed them with fruit erasers instead of candy. I used this game as a bargaining tool to keep the kids on track with instructions throughout the party.
The kids lined up against the fence snacking as parents placed the eggs throughout the backyard. Then, on my count they went on an Easter Egg Hunt which encourages active play once more!
