In The Incredibles we get a hint of Baby Jack-Jack’s super powers when he is kidnapped by Syndrome.
“The family has no idea he has powers,” says producer John Walker. “At the end of the first film the audience gets the first glimpse of what Jack-Jack can do—like bursting into flames and turning into a demon baby—but the Parrs didn’t see that all happening.”
Jack-Jack has a bigger role in “Incredibles 2,” so filmmakers wanted to enhance his look.

“We studied how babies move,” says supervising animator Tony Fucile. “They have all kinds of quirks that only careful observation revealed—the way they walk on their toes or catch themselves when they fall. There is a blend of athleticism, when they can control themselves—and awkward wobbling, when they can’t.”
The toddler’s makeover includes a chubbier face and body, with added articulation in his face since he’s more expressive in the film.
Baby Jack-Jack’s Super Powers Revealed
You will not see new powers pop up on any other characters but Baby Jack-Jack.
Baby Jack-Jack’s powers are finally revealed to the Parr family in Incredibles 2. We see most of them appear during an epic showdown between him and a raccoon.
The Baby Jack-Jack and raccoon fighting sequence is arguably one of my favorite scenes from the movie. It’s clever, funny and just when you think his powers are complete another one pops up.
As a mom of a baby I can relate to this. Every day my baby shows me a new skill I did not know he was capable of. Some good, some bad.

Turning into a demon baby
“Anyone who’s been around little kids knows that toddlers can be awful when they’re having a tantrum,” says supervising animator Dave Mullins. “So seeing that personified in demon baby with big teeth and muscles is just perfect because that’s what it feels like when your kid goes off the rails.”
Maintaining the Look of Baby Jack-Jack
According to effects supervisor Bill Watral, many of Jack-Jack’s powers are effects driven. But achieving the actual effects wasn’t the toughest task the team addressed.
“One of our biggest challenges with Jack-Jack was maintaining the look of the baby— whether he’s turning to goo or on fire,” says Watral. “No one wants to see a burning baby, for instance, so we spent a lot of time making sure he was always appealing and funny.”
Mid-century illustration was an influence. Dennis the Menace and 101 Dalmations for example.
“We went back and looked at the old film,” Tony Fucile said. “What can we do with the old film to bring back that fleshy appearance? We fleshed him out more. The fat is really sitting on the shoulder to get nice round shapes.”
“We didn’t want Jack-Jack to be scary,” says Effects Artist Jason Johnston.
“Jack-Jack has many powers and they are all so fun to see how he uses them in the film,” says Johnston. “They were equally fun to create.”
The Pixar team stressed the importance that Jack-Jack’s powers are always funny and never scary or creepy.
