How can I put into words a spoiler-free Avengers: Endgame review that truly expresses my feelings? Seems impossible, but if Marvel Studios can pull off what I just saw today, I can at least try to put into words how I feel about this masterpiece.
It’s been quite the ride the past eleven years with the Marvel Universe. I remember watching Iron Man for the first time witnessing the comeback of Robert Downey Jr. and thinking to myself, I kind of dig this film. Fast forward to present day and I have committed a lot of time and energy to these beloved and complex characters we have come to know through hours of cinematic magic. They feel like family and that’s why I was so on edge about today’s private screening of Avengers: Endgame.
I felt excitement, nervousness, denial, and shock before I even walked into the theatre. Denial and shock that this was the last movie I would watch with the original Avengers in one place. I don’t want it to end! Of course, this isn’t the end of Marvel movies, but it is an end of a season in this story and that’s all I will say about that.
Let’s get back to the film itself and I will continue to explain my reaction without spoilers. Part of the movie magic of this film is not knowing what happens. I would never want to take that away from a die-hard fan.
My Spoiler Free Avengers: Endgame Review and Reaction
About Avengers: Endgame
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Is Avengers: Endgame worth the hype?
Absolutely! I am not just saying that because I am a self-professed Marvel Geek. Listen, some of the Marvel movies (Thor and Hulk movies, sorry guys) are awful but later redeem themselves (Thor Ragnarok).
Throughout the film, I found myself laughing, crying and at times on the edge of my seat. I witnessed the guy in front of me literally jumping out of his chair clapping with excitement during an epic scene.
I found myself predicting what would happen only to be proven wrong.
I felt tears run down my cheek during times I did not expect myself to be emotional. I felt pride, disappointment, and joy within a few hours. I watched the end credits and truly paid attention to the number of crew members it takes to pull off such a film. It’s incredible when you really think about it.
Yes, it’s worth the hype. Yes, people who don’t get superhero movies won’t understand what all the hype is about and that’s okay! Don’t steal our joy people! Let us be happy about something! Yes, it’s worth the hype and yes, it will be fun for me to overanalyze this film with my husband and friends once they see it. Again, this is what going to the movies should feel like!
Did I make it the entire three hours without a bathroom break? When should you go to the bathroom?
Yes, but I made sure I went to the bathroom right before and hardly drank my refreshment. I can’t even tell you a good time to go to the bathroom because every scene had meaning. You bet I ran to the bathroom once the credits ended. If you have to go potty I would suggest going during the Hulk lunch scene. It’s a funny scene but not really vital to the plotline.
Would I bring my young kids to see Avengers Endgame?
No, just don’t do it unless your child can sit still for over three hours plus. There are a ton of fighting and battle scenes that may be too violent for kids under 8. Guns and bombs are present as well as a few moments of bad language. The movie is rated PG-13 so use your best judgment for your own child. Everyone is different. If you are on the fence, go see it first without them to determine if your child can watch.
Is Avengers Endgame appropriate for Tweens and Teens?
I think so! Again, use your best parental instincts based on your own child. If they are sensitive, use caution. There are a few instances of bad language. That being said, I brought my teenage stepson who understood the movie better than me. Nothing phases him and he was able to explain certain scenes better than I could during our drive home. I think watching this movie together actually earned me cool stepmom points.
Will I see Avengers Endgame again in theatres?
Confession: I did not want to see Avengers: Infinity War again in theatres. It was too emotionally draining for me to experience again in theatres. I did watch it again when it came out on BLU-RAY, but I had no desire to go through that anguish again in a dark theatre.
Avengers: Endgame is completely different. I can’t wait to watch it again with my husband and friends. Yes, there are a few moments I do not want to relive, but the storytelling, humor and overall tone of the movie is something I would like to watch again to catch things I may have missed.
Just go see it. If you don’t know anything about Marvel movies, here’s the best order to watch the Marvel movies so you can binge them as soon as possible. You do not want FOMO when it comes to experiencing Avengers: Endgame in theatres. Kudos to Marvel Studios for bringing movie magic to the big screen in a way that sets the bar for moviemaking and storytelling for years to come.
