Have you ever tried a grilled cheese pizza sandwich? I never did until I started looking for a unique recipe to celebrate National Grilled Cheese Day.
I love pizza and grilled cheese sandwiches, so why not mix the two to double satisfy your taste buds?
It just make sense now that I think about it!
Grilled Cheese Pizza Sandwich Recipe
Gather ingredients:
- Pepperoni Slices
- Mozzarella or Italian Cheese Blend
- Marinara or Pizza Sauce
- French Bread
- Butter
- (Optional: Sliced Onions, Mushrooms & Bell Peppers)
If you want to make your grilled cheese pizza sandwich more on the supreme side then you can add sliced bell peppers, onions and mushrooms. Simply pour olive oil over a skillet on medium high heat. Pour vegetables on top and simmer for a few minutes until softened. Set aside.
Warm another skillet on medium high heat.
Spread butter on 2 slices of bread. Add approx. 1/4 cup of cheese on the other side of the bread. Place 6-7 pepperoni slices on top.
Pour 1/4 cup of pizza sauce on top, then cover with another 1/4 cup of cheese. Add veggies if you wish. One of my sandwiches was packed with vegetables while the other was more on the plain side. You can never have enough choices with a picky toddler or picky eaters in the house.
Place the other slice of bread on top like a sandwich.
Gently place the sandwich on the hot skillet and let cook for a few minutes. Once you get a golden brown crust flip the sandwich (carefully) and let cook for a few more minutes until you get the desired look. If your cheese is not melted enough, simply place in the microwave for 15-30 seconds.
Enjoy this unique spin on an everyday favorite! The prep and cooking time is less than 20 minutes.
Everyone in my family, including Dax, loved the grilled cheese pizza sandwich. It was too easy not to cook and too delicious not to scarf down.
