As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to throw a Mad Hatter Tea Party. I grew up watching Disney’s Alice in Wonderland and I loved how quirky and maddening the storyline was.
I recruited one of my best friends to help me throw a one-of-a-kind tea party that was creative and fun. The tea was pouring, the conversations were flowing and two hours later we were still having a good time. Any age can enjoy a great tea party. All it takes is planning, a touch of creativity, and a good group of guests to throw a Mad Hatter Tea Party that your guests will cherish.
5 Tips for Creating a Gorgeous Mad Hatter Tea Party
Plan ahead and invite guests a few weeks before the party
I had a blast doing my research on how to host a Mad Hatter Tea Party. I could have spent hours on Pinterest, but I didn’t want to be late for my own tea party. A quick trip to the thrift store and I was able to find tea cups, plates, and even doilies. No sense on spending a fortune!
Must-Have Tea Party Items:
Tea Cups with plates
White Plates
Small milk container
Teapots (IKEA has some great options as well)
Napkins
Serving Platters for Finger Foods
Pots to boil water or an Electric Kettle
Find ladies that can bring conversations to the table and who appreciate a good cup of tea. We all live busy lives so it’s nice to have an excuse to slow down, sip on tea, and simply talk to one another. I for one appreciate a good adult conversation that doesn’t include baby talk.
Develop a mouth-watering menu complete with finger foods and tasty treats
Finger foods are great for many reasons, but one reason is that they don’t require silverware. Yeah for not cleaning as many dishes. It’s all about simplicity.

Don’t forget the star of the party – the tea!
Our tea party was complete with a spread of wonderful tea flavors to please even the pickiest palate. Lipton’s new black and herbal varieties and improved green teas refresh the tea experience with bold and stimulating flavors, such as Enticing Chai, Pure Green, Orange Passionfruit Jasmine and Peach Mango. The multi-sensory teas refresh standard tea time, creating an exciting and unique tea-drinking experience Check out the full line-up of Lipton Green, Black and Herbal tea flavors.
Add decor to make the Mad Hatter Tea Party complete
Now, this is the really fun part – incorporating decor items inspired by Alice in Wonderland. I scattered adorable mini cake domes, playing cards, keys and cookies throughout the table. If you have guests that don’t already know each other consider creating table topics to spark and led the conversations.
Create a craft station that also offers guests a party favor to take home
Most people drink hot tea out of a mug, so I thought that they would make great party favors. I decided to create a station where guests could decorate their own dollar store mug with oil-based Sharpies. Many of us googled funny quotes to write on our mugs. We had a great time laughing at all of them.
No matter one’s age or level of love for tea, everyone who attended the tea party had a great time and left with a smile. I couldn’t get over how cute the two younger girls were. I don’t think they stopped smiling and when they left they made me smile because they formally thanked my friend and me for hosting the party.
There are many occasions to host your own Mad Hatter tea party: Mother’s Day, Girls Day, Un-Birthday, or simply ‘just because’.
