The Easiest DIY Slime Recipe Ever!

Unbeknownst to me, there is a DIY Slime Craze happening! I did not realize this until last week when I took an innocent trip to to a local craft store to later be told that they were sold out of Elmer’s glue.

Yes, that is right. Glue. A craft store is out of glue. Sounds crazy, doesn’t it?

They said all the kids are making slime and they can’t keep up with the demand.

Interesting.

I then went to two more stores with no luck. Plenty of glue sticks but not a drop of liquid glue to be found.

Asked the husband to go to another store by his work.

He came home empty-handed.

Wow, who knew that the hardest part of making slime would be finding the glue!

Thankfully, I was able to find some using Amazon.

When I vented to my (Facebook) friends, there were several parents that said their kids were obsessed with making slime right now. Some of these kids were teenagers.

Who would have thought? Here I thought slime was simply entertaining preschoolers and elementary students. Boy, was I wrong.

That week, I saw a plethora of articles talking about glue shortage throughout the nation due to the slime craze. My idea to make slime for the blog was nothing new nor was it original, but it must be fun if so many kids are ditching their tech toys to make good-ole fashioned DIY slime right?

The glue came in the mail and I was finally ready to make slime with Reese.

I told her we were going to make slime and she said she made it at school last week. Instant disappointment hit me. I thought we were going to share this moment together for the first time.

The moment I saw she was excited about I got over it.

I didn’t understand why the DIY Slime Craze was happening until I made it. It’s pretty addicting.

Now that we made this simple slime recipe we want to make more in different ways. The best part… it kept my child entertained longer than a few minutes.

Supplies

1/2 cup glue

Food coloring

1/2 cup water

1/2 cup liquid starch

Glitter, sequins, etc.

(2) Tupperware bowls

Instructions

Mix the glue and water together in one bowl. (Mix to combine completely)

Next, add the glitter, sequins, or confetti along with the food coloring. Tip: When you use clear glue you will get a shinier and see-through substance.

I wish I would have added more glitter to our slime, but being that it was our first time I didn’t know any better. If you want to add a lot of glitter go for it! We will add a lot more glitter to our next batch.

Next, add the liquid starch and as you stir you will definitely see the mixture start to form into a slimy substance. Isn’t it fun?

Once it becomes hard to mix with a spoon, use your hands to knead the slime and transfer it to a clean, dry container such as a Tupperware bowl.

My daughter played with the slime right away, but after 15- 30 minutes it was more of a slime substance and not as stringy.

I have heard that slime can last anywhere from a week to a month. I will let you know.

It’s that easy to make your own DIY slime. The best part is that there are so many variations and recipes of slime you can make using different colors, glitter and confetti. I want to try the fluffy slime next!
