One of my favorite Dr. Seuss books is The Lorax. It has such a strong and important message about taking care of our planet. Even the movie is bright, colorful and engaging. I am on a bit of a Dr. Seuss craft binge lately because his birthday is coming up on March 2nd! Last week, we made Cat in the Hat Fruit Kabobs that were an instant hit in our household. They didn’t last long. This week, my daughter and I are having a blast with The Lorax. She loves “helping” me cut out his mustache! Together we made this adorable pencil holder that looks like The Lorax with Trufella trees.
This unique pencil holder is made out of a pot that makes the perfect gift for an elementary or preschool teacher that also has a love for all things Dr. Seuss.
How to make The Lorax Pencil Holder
Project supplies
Colorful pencils (found mine at Target)
Glitter pom-poms in assorted colors
Large flower pot
Large Googly Eyes or white and black buttons
Yellow Foam Paper
Scissors
Hot Glue Gun
Mustache template -print on cardstock and cut out for a stencil.
Instructions
Hot glue the large pom-poms on the side or on top of the pencils. Set aside.
Using a mustache template, trace the mustache on yellow foam paper and cut.
Glue the mustache on the front mid section of the flower pot. Attach a small orange or black pom-pom for his nose.
Above glue your googly eyes or buttons as show below.
Place the pencils inside the flower pot. I placed packing paper in the bottom to make the trees stand up more perfectly. Sorry, I am a little OCD when it comes to presentation. Fill it with as many colorful pencils or pens that you choose. It’s that easy and simple to make this gift that would look perfect on anyone’s desk.
