I was gifted a Just Between Friends Fort Worth gift card in exchange for this post. All opinions are my own.
Kids consignment sales are a wonderful way to stretch your hard-earned dollars; However, it can be extremely tempting to go overboard if you aren’t careful and disciplined. The first time I went to Just Between Friends Fort Worth, I was unprepared, scattered, and overwhelmed… but in a good way (So many amazing items to choose from).
I am invited to go back to the Just Between Friends Fort Worth spring sale. This ever-so-popular kids consignment sale takes place at Fort Worth’s Will Rogers Memorial Center Amon G. Carter Exhibit Hall with over 75,000 square feet of great kid’s merchandise! Yes, I drive 40 miles for this sale because it’s worth it and gas is cheap right now.
Just Between Friends Fort Worth
is Texas’ LARGEST children’s and maternity consignment sale!
This time I want to be prepared and have a game plan so I can maximize my limited time and dollars. Here are some tips for you and I to follow to make that happen.
Kids Consignment Sale Shopping Tips
1. Make a List of Needs, Wants & Gifts
Plan ahead with this Free downloadable Kids Consignment Sale Shopping List Printable. Do not go into a huge consignment sale without knowing what items you really need. If not, you may end up leaving with a huge bag of things that you really didn’t need but you wanted. Get the things you need first and then see where you are in your budget. If you have some dollars left over, reward yourself and your family with items that you want. Consider upcoming holidays to stockpile on gift items to give away. I saw many moms who were buying Christmas gifts. If you have the storage this is a great way to save money long-term.
2. It’s all about comfort
Some sales don’t have carts, so bring a large bag if you have one handy. This helps you stay comfortable. If you looking to limit your spending, then bring a smaller bag so you aren’t tempted to go overboard. Speaking of being comfortable You are not in high school anymore hanging out at the mall trying to look cute. If you can rock high heels and be comfortable then by all means go for it. Personally, I like to be comfortable and not have to worry about my own comfort needs when shopping. Dressing comfortable by wearing tennis shoes or clothing that is easy to move in will help keep your energy up and focus in tact.
3. Keep your kids at home or hire a sitter
I know you may be tempted to bring them because you can successfully bring them to other stores. Shopping consignment sales are a bit different in my opinion because there is a bit more thinking involved. Although JBF Fort Worth does a fantastic job at organizing items, there are still so many items that you have to search through and make mindful decisions on whether or not you really need or want them. If there was ever I time to keep the kids home with your partner or hire a sitter, shopping at consignment sales is the time. If you can limit distractions, then you can maximize your shopping experience.
4. Hide the receipt from your spouse… or not
The first time I came home from consignment sales shopping, my husband asked me how much I spent. What he should have asked was, “How many items did you bring home?” If he would have asked that first then he wouldn’t have been as blown away at the amount because there is no way I would have been able to get the quality kids items that I got at that incredible price. Like I explained to my husband, it’s all about long-term savings. At that moment, I had spent a lot of money, but saved a significant amount on clothing, toys, and supplies long-term.
If your partner does not understand that shopping principle, then you may want to hide the receipt! ha ha
5. Maximize your savings even further by doing this
Many consignment sales will let you sell clothing to make some extra cash. This is a great way to make money that you can later re-invest into other kids’ items. The fact is that kids grow so fast and it can be pricey to buy new outfits for every stage in their life. I saw many moms at the JBF Fort Worth Sale selling and making money off of their gently worn items. Check out their Merchandise Prep rules.
